I'm considering VCU (Virginia Commonwealth U.) for grad school--does anyone here know much about their music program or faculty? Chuck West is the Professor of Clarinet there but I don't know much about him. Anyone familiar with them or know anyone who has attended?

I attend VCU right now as a Clarinet Undergrad Performance Major. I would recommend Dr West to anyone, VCU has a great enviroment to it, and a good deal of performance possibilities in the public and surrounding area. There are plenty of students you can take on in the schools if you wish, and there is a fairly talented group of Clarinetists there right now if I do say so myself. We also have a great education faculty here, and we just aquired a new Music Ed Proffesor, at the moment I cant remember her name. If you would like to talk further with me about the school fell free to email me or IM me on the same name as my email. Good luck and hope this helped.

I'm a VCU alumnus myself, although from an era prior to Dr. West. I would second most of Charles' remarks. VCU has an urban campus, and there is much to do around town.

Awesome! I'm not 100% sure I will be going to grad school, but if I do, VCU looks to be at the top of my list for the moment. My instructor highly recommends VCU and Dr. West, but I just wanted some outside opinions, and those of current/graduated students are probably the best! Thanks guys!
