Does anyone know the Barrel Specifications for Selmer Centered Tone Clarinets and know who could make one for me in hard rubber or other stable synthetic? Thanks.

I have two Sel-Paris wood barrels, 65 and 67mm which came w: my best USED CT [originals??]. I measured the UJ, its .590" 15.0 mm. By my "little-finger" test the barrel bottoms are the same dia. as the UJ. I try to match mps to the barrel tops in the same manner. If there is "taper" in the barrels, I dont know of it! There are a number of barrel makers, fewer than mp makers? The better known ones, Hite, Fobes, Scott, etc likely can give advice re: matching-up your CT with a custom-made plastic, HR or wood [or metal??] barrel. Much, luck, Don

I have two Selmer CT clarinets bought new in
the years 1958-59. The Bflat clarinet has the
original barrel which is tapered; the UJ is 15.35mms and the m/p end is 15.15mms. For the A the original barrel is not tapered, its dia is 14.93mms. If I try to use the same m/p with both clarinets (its dia ia 14.7mms) the Bflat tunes very well but the A tunes badly. I have tried to find advice about this but no one has been able to help.
I think the original mps for the two instruments were different, I do not know where to find a m/p which will work with the A. It's most unsatisfactory to have to use two different m/ps for the two clarinets, even if I did find one that tunes it correctly.
I hope this information may be found interesting, if not useful in your case.

Just a guess ... but Ralph Morgan, who had a long career at Selmer, may know the original specs and perhaps could even make you a barrel.
On request, Ralph handmakes a limited number of barrels (from grenadilla) and they are very fine...GBK

Thanks, that helps a lot. I'll give Scott and Morgan a call. John, thanks for the dimensions but is the 15.35 at the top of the UJ or is it the UJ end of the barrel? It's interesting that it's tapered outward.

I checked the dimensions of my Bflat barrel and I was wrong - the 15.35 refers to the mouthpiece end and the 15.15 to the upper joint end. Sorry about that,
Since my m/p internal dia is 14.7mms that suggests a serious mismatch?

Thanks John. That now concurs with other information I've found. It does indeed look like the CT barrel had a downward tapered bore.

diz...I'm still a card carrying member of the Buf--- Maf--, but still highly respect the work (and Selmer knowledge) of Ralph Morgan....GBK (who uses a custom Morgan Eb mouthpiece)
