I know the sideways S is a turn, but what does the slash (line through the middle) mean? Thanks for your help!

AhhhHH! I got an idea! It would be neat if this board had music smiley faces...like music notes and such. The regular smileys get dull after a while...and then we could illustrate our points. Just an idea.

It's an inverted turn i.e. it is played lower middle upper middle in sequence (god that's hard to put into words) but you get the picutre.

Kes - actually if you're interested William Lovelock wrote an excellent text called Ornaments and Abbreviations (sorry can't remember the publisher off hand).
All of these little critters are explained copiously with examples and exercises.
