At a local estate sale, I saw, and bot [for a song], 3 LP's, RCA Camden CAL 515, A S Swings Show Tunes; RCA LSP 3675[e], The Best Of A S; and RCA LPM 1570, Any Old Time; plus a 78 of a G Miller set? [7 and 8] Tux J and S of Pearls, ALL in virgin condition!! Artie's 35 total tunes are non-replicated but I will have to wait till tomorrow to tape them off, for auto use. Just wanted you old swing-era cats to be jealous. Band personnel is listed for most, and the Concerto is among the many goodies. Questions?? Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

That was one big thing the LP's had over the new media. Most of them don't list the sidemen

Artie's fine and so's Benny too, but Duke Ellington was doing this sort of stuff when these two were still in shorts I suspect.

Go to [say] "Wall Street Wail" to hear a GREAT early band and absolutely genius clarinet work from Barney Bigard.
I'd be keen to hear what you think.

I bought "Any Old Time" many years ago at a record clearence for $1.00. Fabulous LP. also "Concerto" is much cleaner on this than on the CD that I also have. Great to get the old AS LPs. Also I still like the sound of Vinyls even though I am a technocrat with all the lates gismos. Now all I have to do is try to play like him
Gerry.

A musician pal and I were poking around in an antique store the other day and sitting on a pile of stuff was an Artie Shaw "package" of 78s. Only one of the records was in the set, but the packaging was in great shape. My friend laughed and said that was obviously waiting for me to buy it. This store was enormous and comprised 3 buildings, including basements. So, yes, finding it was serendipitous. That's my 50 cent word for the day.
While it is fun buying on ebay, finding items in person has a much higher appeal for me.

Where is this wonderful store? Anywhere close to NYC? If so, I'll be there next weekend.
Best regards.
