Hello Everyone,
This is my first song I have composed. I'm 15 and just like to play the clarinet, so I made this song to play at a upcoming concert as a little warm up.
The midi file is very small so it's an easy download.
Copy and paste this URL

It's not very long, but I would like some feedback. Anyone is free to use and play this song.
Thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
Fine work, keep at it.
Start to think about themes and form for your next compostion. Is there an A section or theme, a B section with maybe some alterations of the principle melody, then is there a return back to the original? This is the A B A form which is about the first one we all learned in compostion or theory class.
Start to think about organization of your notes and ideas and I'll bet the next compostion is even better. I also noticed that you were in a minor key. Remember that there are major keys as well so also think of the mood you are trying to convey in your compostions.

Ahh, the minor key... when I started writing I always wrote in a minor key too. This is great!! I love listening to teenagers writing pieces (I being one myself at age 17.)
Also, though you do want to think about theme, remember that there's room for a little variation in everything you do. Music that's too uptight doesn't have as much potential, in my humble opinon.Hank Lehrer wrote:

Shows great promise! Not only could I not do that at 15, I can't do it at 52 either.

Agreed - I especially like how you handled the ending and didn't just cut it short.

I wrote my first clarinet duet at 15 - it was my first ever composition.
Without any lessons, I was accepted into the Melbourne Conservatorium on clarinet as well as composition. The piece I submitted was a 45-minute symphony. So keep it up, keep writing, who knows where you'll be in a mere 3 years!
In case you're curious, I took the position on clarinet, I want to do clarinet more than composition.
Very cool piece, maybe I'll perform it sometime! =]
