Buffet: from 1936 to 1938

Just acquired my '36 Buffet (21xxx) from restoration and was surprised with the differences from my '38 (25xxx). I thought there would be a near-duplication of playing characteristics. Not at all! I can only measure bores using the "pinky test," but the older Buffet has an appreciably smaller bore. I had NOT expected such a difference in design over such a short period of time! I read <i>(Just repeating stuff here! No published references available!)</i> that Gigliotti played a 21xxx series Buffet and that the Selmer 10G was designed to reflect its playing characteristics. Mine is a fine player. Still, I prefer the tones of the later model, and now I wonder what all those out-of-tune "Academy Model" late 1940's Buffets might have sounded like. I'm wondering if they were . . . fabulous.
