 Suggestions for new music

I'm a returning player, not currently instructed by anyone. I've concentrated on the Baermann scale studies and have worked on the following pieces:

Schumann Fantasy Pieces op.73 - Love the emotion in these peices and feel I can play through all three pretty well. I'm buying the CD that has just the piano part and can't wait to work with it !

Six Studies in English Folk-Song - actually pretty easy for me. They are fairly simple but so musical and easy to get into.

Suite from The Victorian Kitchen Garden - Can you tell I take suggestions from this board ! These are just plain pretty - I'm playing them at 80 beat per my metronome. I play them through a few times at the end of my practice.

Victor's Tale - cool piece with fun rhythems - getting the album changed everything about my sense of the piece. I'm still working on some of the runs and some high note transitions but it's coming along....

I'd love to hear what pieces people think I should try next.

The toughest thing for me is picking new pieces to work on. I think that's where a teacher would help me most. Then again, would I have heard of the Suite or Victor's Tale without this board ? THANKS

Maybe 3 Romances by Schumann and if you want to work on something different and real rythmic I would succest Sonatina by Malcolm Arnold who just past away earlier this month. For solo I would try 5 pieces by Gordon Jacob different styles(Preamble,Waltz,Homage to J.S.B,Soliloquy and Scherzo and trio). Can you play something in 7th grade like Poulenc sonata and Stravinsky 3 solo pieces if so I could succest some more pieces in this range. I see that you have been playing the Fantasy Pieces. I'm now playing sonata by Poulenc,Duo concertant by Millhaud,3 pieces by Stravinsky and Soriéstücke(orginal version of the Fantasy pieces) by Schumann and for me Schumann is most difficult but Poulenc has lot of difficult lines too. It's like with Schumann's Fantasy pieces as Brahm's sonatas that they aren't technically difficult but playing it well together with piano is really tricky. My favourite recording of the Fantasy pieces are with Gervase de Peyer on the Chandos label and with Reginald Kell on Decca.

Good luck with your playing :)
