I'm just excited after rehearsing with my local wind symphony last night, we passed out new folders and music and inside was a wind ensemble transcription of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." I'm a big Fantasia fan, so this is one piece I've always wanted to tackle. Looks like a toughie. Anybody ever played it?l

Lots of interesting woodwind passages. Work especially with the flutes and oboes to develop ensemble playing and rhythmic accuracy...GBK

My Senior year in High School we played a Band version. Although I did enjoy it, the first clarinets had mostly violin parts and the lower clarinets and trumpets got all the cool clarinet solos. However, it was still a blast to play although I never got any of the awesome solos :( I cannot remeber the Arranger's name off the top of my head. I know that he tought at Illinois (I think) and he transposes a lot of Orchestra music for wind ensemble. It could be Mark Hindsley (sp?), but I could be totally wrong. Who did your version? Have fun playing!

We're playing the Hindsley transcription. I'm first chair second part. Looks like I have some fun passages! Time to dig up my Fantasia DVD...
