 time to replace cork?

How is it determined if a cork needs to be replaced? For example, when I attach the barrel to the upper joint of my clarinet, I am able to rotate the barrel with easy, but not excessive force. Should it feel hard to insert and rotate the barrel?

If it doesn't wobble or slip out, the cork is OK.

My teacher years ago had purchased an old selmer that he finaly found, and I remember saying to him that he should perhaps change the corks, "no" he said , as long as it plays the way I want it to play I am not changing it.

So the fact is as if it doesn't fall off and doesn't affect your sound and doesn't cause you any problems don't worry about it.
