I am a Hong Kong people, and learned to play clarinet in school time. Afterward, I put it aside because of my career but I miss my clarinet's sound. Does anyone know a good teacher who lives in Hong Kong now?

Art Center at Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
there is one Chinese teacher(Mr. Wu) that play and teach much better than Andrew Simon, Andrew teach there as well
, there is something I don't want to reveal in this board
about why Andrew is the principal and how he manipulate the
power to avoid other enter the HK philarmonic, you can
e-mail me for further information.

Please don't insinuate anything. Either make a statement or don't say _anything_. It's insulting to me and to the rest of the world when people make such statements. Give us facts so we can ask Mr. Simon and the orchestra ourselves - or say nothing at all.

sorry there is nothing I want to reveal about the politcs
because other people may get involved. JUST assume I said
nothing about that.
however one thing I can tell you and the rest of the
world, I attended one of Andrew Simon's concert 5-6 years
ago in Hong Kong, it was aweful, he was playing Weber's
Concerto No.2, he played with the score in front of him!!
and the high notes were out of tune, obviously he was
lack of practice, he did not respect those people
who pay the money who bought the ticket. From my ear
and other music students' ears in the Art Academy, we
all think he is not the best clarinetist in Hong Kong.
We presume the reason why he was appointed is because
he is from Juliet, maybe he was good when he just graduate
, but obviously his performance has been degraded.
I have not listened to him for 5 years, so I donno how
good he is now. I hope he can play a concerto without
the score in front of him now. *sigh*

Using the score does not make a person either a good or bad musician. Memorization of music is a separate skill from being able to play musically, with good technique, tone, and interpretation.

Then say nothing at all. This BBoard will not allow hearsay. If you don't have the courage to come forth with real accusations in this venue, then do not say anything. Everything has its "politics" - and there may be a lot more to it that you or your fellow students know.

And your point is? I've benn to a couple of ClarinetFests where world famous and generally excellent players have given miserable performances in front of their peers.
Dee already mentioned about the score; some players use them, some not. While in piano playing no score is traditionally used, for other instruments there is no such tradition. As a music student I would have thought you knew that.

He may not be at the moment. But - in all orchestras I know of - once you're past the probationary period you have the position until you retire or you break the rules of your contract. There's no "challenges" to your position.

I am so surprise this topic can draw some attention and response. For those who are interested in hearing Simon's playing, I can recommend his CD with the title "Hot". It can be purchased from Tower Record.

Hope to be the same person. ^.^
I feel sorry that my question had raised argument.
However, please keep telling more about Hong Kong's clarinetist, because I care.

your question was completely valid - don't feel sorry at all! Looking for teachers and recommendations for teachers is always a good type of query. It was the innuendo in a response that caused the trouble.
