Hi all,
Opinions on the Hite "M" mouthpiece, anyone? How does it compare with the "D" and "J" series? Reed type /strength?

I have "D" and "H", and like them both, slightly preferring the "D". I tend to use #3 to #3.5 Grand Concert or #3 Gon. FOF. The "H" accepts #3.5 more happily for me, but I use double lip emb. which asks more of the lips.

P.S.: Sorry, I was not aware of the M or ML models. I understand "H" was designed for reeds with longer lay such as thick blank GC or VD12 or FOFs.

Hi Mark:
Not to belabor a point, as I've posted lots on the HITE mouthpiece on this BB, but I suggest you contact David Hite himself at his home and workshop in FL. He has an 800#, and email through his site. He loves to talk to interested people about his products. So, jump in and ask him all about the "J, D, and M" facings.
He'll give you more info than anyone else. And, he plays damn good clarinet himself!

I did what you suggested and wrote to Dave. I'm sure I will be hearing from him soon. The hardest part was coming up with a question that would help me most with my selection decision. So, among other things, I asked him, "What inspired him to create this mouthpiece?"

You've asked David Hite a great question. I'll be eager to hear his reply. I believe he might say that he has been trying to improve the level of clarinet playing in the country, by making a mouthpiece that is consistent, easy to play, and not costly. He had experimented with many designs, shapes, and sizes, and he now has one of the most stable and trustworthy mouthpieces on the market. I hope you wind up with one of his fine mouthpieces, and enjoy playing on it as much as I do.
