Bad clarinet cracks and college audition
Author: James

It seems to me like this year has been a winter season of cracking upjoints. My friends Concerto II cracked and I just discovered this morning my R13 was cracked (didn't hit the bore)in the upper joint at the register key. Rick Sayre said it would need about four pins. :( There is still a small chance it will hit the bore. Just out of curiousity has anyone else expierenced cracking in their instruments this season? I thought it was somewhat a rare thing for a clarinet to crack (unlike the oboe). Thanks a lot.

I personally haven't had any problems with cracking. But, my clarinet teachers R-13 cracked this year. I live in Nebraska where the weather is horrible for clarinets. I would recommend trying to keep the temperature where you store your clarinet pretty regular and make sure that you oil it at least one time during the winter. I'm sorry to hear about yours. Good luck!
