 New E-13 problem
Author: Skeet

I gave my daughter a new Buffet E-13 and after a weekend at All-Districts (brag brag) she has declared that she loves it. She is having one problem that I thought might draw some advice here. Keep in mind I am a brass player and know almost nothing about clarinets. She says " Having a problem doing a trill on F and F#. Seems sluggish." She says that the holes seem bigger now and she may not be getting the coverage she needs for the trill. I am just wondering if it needs an adjustment of some sort because the problem seems limited to these notes. Sorry to ramble.

Skeet...I may be only as simple as using the correct trill fingering from F4 to F#4, or F5 to F#5.

Check to see if she is familiar with the proper trill fingerings...GBK

It also might need some adjustment. If the dealer didn't have the repair shop tech set it up carefully it might now have the proper action. Key balance is important in the initial set-up and often is overlooked.

If that isn't the problem, perhaps it's just that she isn't used to this new instrument and is judging by her old one.

Which F to F#? If it's the F to F# in the clarion register, as GBK notes she might not be using the correct fingering, or, if the bridge key it not aligned well, the R.H. ring keys may not be staying down well during the trilling process.
