Noblet 40 vs. E-11/12

Getting ready to make a purchase for either a Noblet 40 or E-11 or E-12. I am a French Horn player trying to purchase a decent clarinet for my daughter. My dad was a clarinet major, but he never gave me the scoop on good clarinets at this price point.

Does anyone have any experiance or advice that may help in the decision process (good or bad).

I had an E11 but recently sold it to upgrade. The one I had played very nicely, and was a good horn to work with both inside and outside (I used it the last three years for marching band). There was a nice feeling I got when I played on it, only exceeded by that of the school's R13 I was loaned. Anyways, the E11 is a great beginner/intermediate horn that can offer years of good sound, especially if later it only gets played occasionaly, because the cost isn't as high as other instruments.

Both are fine quality horns and your daughter should do well with either one. If she already plays some, it would be a good idea to have her play them and then go with her selection. Different instruments appeal to different people. For example I much prefer Leblanc clarinets.

If she is involved with the selection, she will feel important and valued and will also have a much greater commitment to doing well.

Depends on the Students level, and size. The E-11 has smaller keywork in the lower right hand - not ideal for a student with larger hands, or older then around 8th-9th grade if possible get the E-12 that has full size stretch for the lower notes. Or course price around, as calling Woodwind Brasswind, Muncy, Weiner, IMS can save you hundreds of dollars off of retail cost.
Dee prefers Leblanc, I do not. You have to try for yourself, and what feels right, and sounds right for you. Some leblancs come with plastic barrels, and bells with wooden bodies - I'm not into that.

I played an R 13 last nite [checking it out for friends], great, fits my medium size hands well, reminded me of an Evette [earlier model, renamed as E 11/12??] I found for a student. So, except for having a Leblanc bias like Dee, either should be very suitable, suggest also that she choose. Don
