chromatic...yatta yatta

i know this may sound dumb, but in band right now, we're having chair tests and like we're doing them on the chromatic scale and chromatic spread.. what the hell is chromatic spread???? the teacher says it all the time and i dont know what he means!!! if any of you know the regular scale for bass clarinet you would be much help!!! thanks!!!!
