I am currently going to have a chair audition, on my chromatic, major scales and 2 prepared pieces. How should i play to get section leader? How should i practice? What will the teacher look for?

By the tone of your post, i'm guessing you're assuming that section leader and first chair go hand-in-hand. In all my experiences, that's not the case. Sure, the best player is first chair, but the section leader is one who is responsible, a leader, and always strives for excellence. Keep that in mind.

As far as practing goes, don't try to learn every scale at once. Practice a few each day, adding the ones from previous days each time you practice. On your prepared pieces, watch the details, like dymanics and accents! Work on musicality and phrasing in your practice time.

Good luck on your audition, but don't be disappointed if you don't end up quite where you wanted to be. Trust me, we've all been there.

hey, it's kinda weird, i'm sorta in the same boat as you are! But, i'm a section leader already, and now that marching season is over, in concert, my teacher is holding auditions for seating. I Know someone who will beat me, but to have underclassmen beating me would just suck. SO i'm practicing big time on my scales right now!
good luck!

In adding to what Weirdo said your tone is going to be important, especially if your aiming for 1st chair/section leader. Show him that you can play with control and facility in the upper register of the instrument without sounding like a steam whistle. Also, check your intonation (make sure all your notes are in tune with each other). Don't worry about a few wrong notes here and there, whoever is seating you is going to look at your overall sound and how you contour and shape the piece(s) you have to play. Good luck!
