I have braces and I play a regular flute (not open hole) I need to know how to get my best tone quality. It makes it hard with braces. ANYTHING will help since it sounds terribly airy. Thanks.

I never had braces, but I know it's possible. I think you just need to practice and get used to your tone. It's not easy, but do what you can. Play long tones, and get the best sound quality you can. I recommend Trevor Wye's Tone Book. There are some excellent studies in there that can help you, and it's not expensive, probably around $12.

Trevor Wye's Tone Book is an excellent book to study sound quality. That's what I am currently working on. And I have braces like you, and I had trouble playing my open-hole flute for a few weeks. Oddly, the braces made me play much better (I think this is because you get more aware of the size of your embouchure as you play). Experiment to not tighten your lips so much. Try to blow straight as possible, and don't put the upper and the lower teeth close. You'll figure it all out after doing some flute experiments.

Whether your flute is open-holed or not should not make a difference when you have braces, unless you're trying to cover the holes with your teeth instead of your fingers, in which case you have an even bigger problem.
