Greetings all,
My 12 year old son is a couple months into playing the Sax in the school band. He has known SEVERE milk allergies. Like clockwork, he throws up for a few (3-5) hours starting 1-2 hours after band. (Sorry - didn't know how to sugar-coat that last sentence.) 
Can anybody tell me if there are ANY milk proteins/products, etc used in the production of reeds?
Specifically, he has Rico-Frederick L. Hemke reeds.
Thanks in advance for sharing any info you may have.

Never heard of that problem. May be something in the wooden reeds. Try a Fibracell reed; fantastic reed with wonderful response and unaffected by heat or cold. Little more expensive but I have used a Fibracell for months before it gives up the ghost. Good luck and stay with that sax young man.

I have milk allergies to and don't have problems. although i have heard of people just plain allergic to the reeds. try a different brands to see if its a coating they put on that reed, if that doesn't help, maybe try using a synthetic reed. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jack - I will check in to the Fibracell reeds.
And thanks "Theboy_2". That's encouraging to see reeds don't affect you or your allergies.
Also - to all - it wasn't until after I posted this that I noticed this forum is specifically on fingerings. My question was W A Y off topic....sorry!
Anyhow, I would still appreciate additional input or feedback any of you can give.
