SINCE MY ALTO SOUNDS LIKE A P.O.S. THIS NEW SOPRANO SOUNDS GREAT, BUT I KNOW THAT MY TONE IS CLEARLY AWFUL. ALL THE FINGERING SEEMS THE SAME, 'CEPT IT GETS SO SQUEAKY AND HARD TO GET MY NOTES OUT. IS THERE ANY MOUTH EXERCISES OR MAYBE IM JUST HOLDING IT WRONG.
AND IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME WHY I HAVE TO NECKS, AND WHAT THE CURVED ONE IS FOR, THEY CANT BE THE SAME OR MAYB MY PLAYING IS JUST THAT CRAPPY.

The 2 necks R a Straight Neck and a Curved Neck. U can also get a solid one piece Soprano where the neck is permanently on the sax. I think it's really preference. I'm not a big sax expert, but it's proably mainly preference. If U have the Straight neck, it's like a Clar/Oboe. If U have a curved neck, U odn't need to hold it out much

The two different necks are for however you like to hole the instrument, close to your body or not close. also for a different situations, if you want your sound to be projected out use the straight neck. if you don't need this, use the curved. i've noticed when i played an alto from my soprano, my noted weren't clear. it's from the way the mouthpeice sits in your mouth, they are angled differently. play around with your embourchure for a while until you get used to it. hope this helps.

I just started playing sax again after 15 years! I used to play alto and now I have picked up the soprano. I agree with you. THis thing sounds terrible when I play it. I am sure it is just my embouchure and the fact I have been away so long but those low notes are a real pain! Anyone feel the same way?
Also, I have 2 necks also. I use the stright one for right now. Is there are suggestion suggestions for embouchure?
I have seen a posting from a "Jesse" on 09-12-02 about using just the mothpiece and neck. Does this work?
