 Transposing!

I've seen in the last couple posts a lot of confusion on transposing. Here's a simple trick: (Say you want to go from instrument 1 to instrument 2)
-Find the interval between the "base concert pitch" of instrument 2 to instrument 1 (not 1 to 2).
-Take which ever direction it took you to find that interval and invert it.

Here's two examples.

*Bb Clarinet to Eb Alto Sax.
The interval is a perfect fifth going up.
So to put Bb Clarinet into alto sax, one should transpose DOWN a perfect fifth.

*Oboe to A Clarinet
The interval is a minor third going up.
So to put oboe into A Clarinet, one should transpose the music down a minor third.

Wait hold on. If you're transposing Bb clarinet parts into alto sax parts you take every note UP a perfect fifth. If you're tranposing alto sax parts into Bb clarinet parts you take every note DOWN a fifth. That is what you're saying? It sounded like you were saying the reverse.

Sorry, I should have alternated those words. Jeez, I try to clarify transposing and make it worse. I hate that
