I have been playing the alto saxophone for almost a year now. Yet when I play notes on the upper register, like a high b or c, the notes come out sounding very shrill. My teacher suggested that I try tightening my emboucher, but that doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make such high notes sound pleasant?
Thank you!

Kim, try moving up a half size in your reed selection. The size that you are currently using may not be stong enough to handle the upper register on your horn.
Good luck,

Take ur mouthpeice of the sax and play it on its own. The sound will be quite horrible but grin and bear it. Try and adjust ur mouth to make the sound as low as u possibly can using just the mouthpeice. Practise this until u can do it first time every time using just the mouthpeice and then replecate the same embouchoure on ur sax. It will make the upper register sing and sound like a bird!!!
