 Braces VS Oboe
Author: Kathryn

I haven't played my oboe in awhile because I've been playing alot sax in marching band. Anyways, I'm back in band class now and can hardly play anything!!! I've been able to get an oboe in better condition (last school loaner one literally fell apart on me) and the sax didn't give me too much trouble....unless my braces had been tightened. My band director is going to get me some new reeds instead of my store bought ones. He says that's part of the problem. I still think my braces are getting in the way of things. Is there anything I can do about it? I've heard about morganbumper.com but that seems like it would make it worse. Any suggestions? All would be greatly appreciated.

don't worry about it, i played for a year with braces and found that your lips do alter around the teeth. Alternatively try slightly shorter reeds, that helped me.
you just gotta persevere with it, as the oboe is hard enough to play without complications!!
