Sara: You might want to search or ask this question on the Sneezy clarinet bulletin board.

There's also some information on the following page.

Sara, I too have been playing the clarinet for about the same amount of time. Virbrato is an art form to the clarinet that is often mis-understood. It is easy to do using your throat and embachour. To me it is a lot like when you try to add virbrato while you sing. The best way to learn is to practice and listen to the experts, Benny Goodman and Pete Fountian. They not only have great form but they bend/blend notes with out moving a finger! I tought myself and I'm sure you can do the same. Have fun!!!

I use my embouchure to produce vibrato. Granted it's not as good as a natural singer's vibrato, but it's a start. Breath control is also an issue. The way I am working on it is to sing through my clarinet rather than just going through the motions, especially on pieces by Brahms, such as his Sonata No. 1 in F minor. The chords and rhythms he put in the first movement show early leanings toward jazz, so a little bit of vibrato there never hurts, but nothing obviously "jazz."
