 Don't you just hate...

Excessive ledger lines? I mean, it really WOULDN'T hurt to write the notes an octave lower/higher with 8va, or write them in a different clef. (Not expecting anyone to know tenor clef, or bass clef for that matter) When I encounter high notes in flute music, I only see a hodgepodge of lines, not knowing which note is which. I could read intervals, but it's much simpler for me to write them an octave lower. Who's with me here?

I agree it IS annoying trying to figure out exactly HOW MANY lines there are. . . but I think it's harder to read things an octave down with "8va" written. This is especially difficult in music that switches between octaves. I think it's just more straightforward to write it as played.

I studied very well those notes (only in G and F key) so now I don't have problems :) I recognize them immediatly.

as a flute player you will get to reconize every note up to the high high c (the higest note for a flute) it just takes time and practice how long have you been playing flute? i have been playing for 8 years

C isn't the highest note on the flute. The practical range goes up to the D right above it and the "playable" range extends to a supposed high F above that, although I've never played it or heard it played. I've only heard of one piece going up as high as a D# (not that I can remember what it is). I've been playing 11 years.

it does get annoying, I can only quick read up to the F and after that I have to stare at it for a bit or count up! :D

i'm not a big fan of the ledger lines, but when you get up higher, do you really want to be reading the 8va's and the 15ma's all over? that would get confusing fast. i had trouble when i first was reading those notes, wondering what they were, but after time you get used to it, if not write the note above it so you know what it is quickly. hope this helps.

I agree Barnaby lol. I play oboe but during marching season my freshman and sophomore years i wasn't part of the marching band (shame on me) and had to read flute music. It's kinda funny the way marching music sounds on oboe, especially jazz and jock jams lol. Now i'm playing mellophone for marching band :).

i kinda prefer ledger lines. i know that its difficult sometimes but i just remember that note and what it is if i hafto but if it is really high i do actually prefer the indications but other than that most of thm are pretty easy for me anyways. its always good to look and study your music to like. i know if you have a really boring class like free time or something i like to bring my music along and read over it. i dont know about yall but that entertains me pretty well.

musically yours,
jon
