 Vibrato on the Oboe
Author: Debbie

Can someone give me a quick(?) refresher on how to achieve vibrato on the oboe. I took private lessons in high school
and remember being taught about it, but I haven't played for 30 years and I'm taking it up again in a community band; but the vibrato isn't coming naturally and I can't remember exactly what I was told to do.
Thank you!

you might want to try with your mouth "Ya-Ya-Ya-Ya".
After being able to acheive this, try doing it without using your mouth, just achieve by pulsing your air from your diaphram. After you're able to do this, try pulsing the air on a note in a comfortable range such as G on the line. Pulse on this note until you feel comfortable enough to try other notes. Eventually, try this on all notes and pulse the air faster as your reach the "A" with the second octave key. Good luck.
