i can see many different reed brands out there, the popular ones being Rico & Vandoren.......they have many different series that suits each potential player's needs.......well.......so how does each help in our playing?
i have been using rico grand concerts 2 1/2 for the past 2 years or so.....
then i decided to take a try on the thick blanks......i found them to be MUCH MUCH better......intonation control, tone, dynamics.......so what does thick blank mean and why do they differ so much from the grand concerts?

Rico is evil...never ever ever use rico. Rico is the root of all evil. Ricos are cheaply made reed and thus have a poor tone quality. Stick with Vandoren. Its the best possible reed you can find for clarinet and saxophone. Even most proffesionals use them. There are different variations of course for vandorens but the regular ones are the best unless u play sax the V-16 are a little better for jazz music.

reeds are all a persons preference. vandorens are great, thats all i use, but i know people who'd never give up their ricos. but aside from that, i assume that the difference is the thickness of the reed. take vandorens for example, they have the standard blue box, good reed. and they have a grey box, advanced player v-12(for clarinet). they are thicker at the bottom instead of all over so they give you a thicker sound and a better control over the note. so i don't know if this is your case of grand concerts vs. blanks. as far as i know, the sound of a reed instrument comes from the reed. so a difference in thickness changes the sound control, pitch, ect. hope this helps.

Always nice to consider, just incase your cane reeds lock up during a performance to get yourself a synthetic reed or two. Legiere reeds are just fabulous. They come in quarter sizes as well. Usually play on a quarter to a half stronger strength than what u play on cane. Guaranteed to always work. You can order them from Muncy Winds in South Carolina. I play the oboe, But I get my cane from the Davie Cane Company in Davie, FL. It's amazing cane and I've heard the clarinet and sax reeds are great as well. It's my instructor and his friend's shop. You ought to try it out. www.daviecane.com

Remember that demo is your friend, he looks out for you, he will help you when you've done somone or something wrong. Do not worry about the police, just consult demo before you do something wrong.
