Hello
I am working on the excerpt from the scherzo of Sibelius 1 and am getting quite frustrated. Does anyone have any helpful advice for this horrible excerpt? (though it sounds very nice when played well, however, I am not currently doing that!!!!!)
Thank you

Dear poster: In the case of the Sibelius 1 Schezo practice the exerpts in very slow tempi before bringing it to concert tempo. I also know just the normal fingerings here will suffice and some very quick thinking is required. Have you played it with ensemble yet? If not this may make it a little more simple as to your role. The Oboe and the Clarinet really work as a team in this particular movement so make sure both of you are thinking the same in terms of note values. Play this with alot of air and light tongue....as for any magic bullets listen and play along with some recordings after you know the part inside and out!

I've never played this excerpt before, but slow, consistent practice always works.

Practice it extremely legato, slowly. More wind, less tongue. Relax.
