I want to get a decent mouthpiece for my clarinet, but don't want to break the bank. I heard that Hite is a good student mouthpiece. Any other suggestions?

Clark Fobes Debut, Many of the vandorens are about 55 bucks making them affordable. Gigliotti Advantage, Ummmmm . . . do a search too. Student mouthpiece or something like that. I'm sure others will be able to recommend some more.

The Woodwind Co. (Leblanc) K series is also affordable, and I've found them to be more consistant than the Vandorens. Still, try out a few of whatever you're planning on buying.

See my post regarding "Clarinet bores " Suggest you determine if your stick is small or large bore. This may cut out irrelevant mouthpieces. Important for tuning esp in the upper reaches.

Hite Premier, Fobes Debut, Richard Hawkins Student mpc are all obtainable for $30 or less, and are hand finished by the makers. Check the IMS or WW&BW websites (go via the "Retail" section at top of page).

First: The mouthpiece that comes with the clarinet with Rico Reeds.
Then: Larry Combs with Mitchell Luries(2-3) and soft Vandoren V-12s-2's.
Next: 5RVLyre: Mitchell Luries(3-3 1/2) and Vandoren V-12 2-3's or Vandoren 2-3 1/2
After: M13 with Vandoren 3's and 4's or V-12 3 1/2's or 4's

I don't know anything about Hite. The Larry Combs 1, 5RVLyre, M13, and the mouthpiece that came with the clarinet are the mouthpieces that I have used in the past.
The reeds that I have used are: Ricos, Rico Royals, Mitchell Lurie, Vandoren V-12, Grand Concert, Grand Concert Select, and Vandoren.
Now, I have settled on the B40. This is a very open mouthpiece that I would NOT recommend to a beginner because of how open it is. It is very resistant. A beginner would struggle with this mouthpiece.
I also recommend the B45. I tried it once and found it very free-blowing. It might be too advanced for a beginner though.
Go with some of the advice given above. These may be intermediate student mouthpieces rather than beginner.
Listen to the above advice. These ARE advanced/intermediate only. I think the Hite might be more suitable and accessible, just by what has been said on this Bulletin Board.

Vandoren mouthpieces and reeds.
