Hi, I just bought a new Buffet RC Clarinet and I am wondering what is the proper way to break into it. How long should I play on it each day? And does swabbing bore oil through the clarinet allow the clarinet to be maintained better? Please help me.
Thank you

hehe, well... my R-13 came with care instructions. It says swab every 15-20 minutes, and do not play for more than 30 minutes at a time for the first month. Replace swabs when they're dirty, and don't stick them in the case wet... etc etc... (reading from little booklet) Didn't yours come with the cool little "Platinum service" booklet? :-P
And don't worry about oiling the bore for now. As long as it's not really dry, or really damp, it will be fine.
Good luck and have fun! Congrats on your new baby.

Here:
Play it for 15 minutes the first week.
The second week play it for 30, adding five minutes a day, until you reach your normal practice time.
If it is cold, make sure to warm it up by holding it in your hands. Once it reaches a warm temperature, play it. You should reach a normal playing time in three weeks.
Use these exercises: Twelfths, thirds, scales up to the fifth, and one octave scales. As it breaks in add music you know. You will personally know when you want to play it as much as your last horn. Don't worry about cracking. If it does, it will.
DON'T OIL IT YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BRING IT TO A MECHANIC.
I own an R-13. I brought it in May. I haven't since then.
Just relax and enjoy your new horn.
Happy New Year.
