 To find out-of-print music
Author: Brenda

I was finally successful in finding Barber's "Adagio for Strings" by reaching the publisher, Schirmer's Archive Service. Since this was out of print I had to contact the archives directly. Our choir will be able to have a legal copy in our library.

If anyone is having trouble finding out-of-print music, this may be a source to try. The address is: Schirmer Archive Service, 257 Park Ave. S., New York, NY 10010. Their fax is (212) 254-2013.

Legally speaking ... if you make an arrangement then it won't be legal unless the copyright owners allow the arrangement.

This will be marked "Authorized photocopy purchased from the copyright holder", according to the letter from the Production assistant at Schirmer Inc. This way we don't have to make an arrangement of the piece, we'll be buying a legal copy from the original publisher. Don't worry, we're conscious of these things, especially since we perform many Clarinet Choir pieces in public.

Cool, Brenda! It's always nice to find people that respect the rights of the owners.

I had a similar thing happen when I purchased the score to "And the Angels Sing."

It came in an official looking folder with a paper that informed that due to its limitability I was receiving a fully authorized photocopy. I chuckled, but I got the song and that's what mattered.

Good job, Brenda. =)
