I had posted a message earlier about my dislike in my tone color. I do have a B45 mouthpiece which most of you said that my mouthpiece was the problem, its not.
Some people had mentioned that blowing more air would make it better. How do you make a nice sound when you have to play soft and have a lesser air stream.
I wanted to ask what kind of reeds i should use. I have been using Mitchell Lurie Premuim 3. In the past ive had Vandoren 3.5 I Wanted some advice on what brands produce a better sound. Some people suggested Legere 3.25 and V12 2.5. Is the 2.5 a really low number for V12's? Secondly, I wanted to ask how to sand your reeds. Ive wasted many that were border line in the past.
sorry that im asking so many questions, Im a 10th grader in highschool without a teacher yet so i got lots of questions. thanks everyone

"Some people had mentioned that blowing more air would make it better. How do you make a nice sound when you have to play soft and have a lesser air stream."
Probably what was meant was, use more steady breath support, not necessarily just "blow'n more air." Also, arch the back of your tongue as in producing a long Haaaaaaaaaaaaaa (kind of like a cats angry hiss--but air only) This back tongue configuration will help accelorate and focus your air stream toward the tip of your mouthpiece and make your air more efficient in producing your sound. And will also help refine it and enable you to play softer with the same steady air stream. conceptually, not a "lesser stream" but "slower" with the same steady support and focal action of your arched tongue. The age-old concept of playing with an "open throat" is missleading because it also suggests that you flatten your tongue. Open your throat (for good support), but arch your tongue as described above. This should help a bit if you do it right.
Sanding??? I never sand the backs of my reeds. I only work on the vamp corners and sides with a reed knife for balancing purposes. I play a Kaspar #14 mpc with V12 3.5 reeds which work well for me.
Come back if you have more questions--first-time cyberanalysis of clarinetists problems is not yet an exact science that I understand.

Try a V12 3.5. It gave me less overtone, less brightness. For my teacher and my taste, it was a little stuffy, but that's our preference. It may be just right for you. Otherwise I use VanDoren 3.5.
