In my new job I work along side thousands of classical LP's, and I just came across an old recording of Symphonie Fantastique with Pierre Monteux conducting the San Francisco Symphony. Does anyone know who was principal clarinet at that time? I'm assuming the time-frame is between late 30's to early 50's. Sorry I can't be more specific; they didn't always print the date of the recording on the record sleve.
Thanks,
Mitch K.

I would not hesitate to guess, but you may want to contact the San Fransico Symphony or even check with a member of the orchestra. That being said I have a very high regard of all of Monteaux's records and below is a list of companion recordings you may want to look into"
Rimsky Korsakov Scherazade (de Peyer is great on this one) the London Symphony
Ravel Orchestral Music Philips London symphony
Beethoven Symphony No9 London Symphony Millenium MCA
Brahms 2cd Symphony London Symphony(another great record with the 1st movement repeat played)
Stravinsky Rite of Spring Paris Conservatoire Orchestra Decca Richmond Label
Monteaux was certainly a very fine conductor and worked with Boston in the 20s, and had a sound all his own....you should also check the Beethoven 6 with the vienna Phil....it has long been one of my very favorites as well
Sincerely
Monteaux fan
