I am a doubler. The original Selmer barrel has developed a hair line suface crack. I play big band and small combo gigs. My mpc. is a John Pierce Jazz (.55 tip). I would need a barrel that would project and be compatable with the set up I have.I think the Selmer barrel is 66mm.Not being a knowledgeable clarinetest...Would appreciate suggestions. This Series 9 is about mid 60s mfg.
Thanks

Why not just repair the original barrel?? Any competent repairperson should be able to seal the crack (hairline) and make the barrel "good as new." The repair will probably be stronger that the original wood and should be of no further concern to you.

You can order a barrell from Selmer (Paris) or through a local importer. They make body parts, replacement keywork etc.. If the crack is only hairline just get it repaired and see how it goes. There are a few options oher than a genuine barrell also as metioned above there are DEG accubore barrells but they are very loud and you can lose subtlety. There are adjustable barrells such as Click; Chaddash barrells seem to be mentioned on this board quite a bit.

You need to match the barrel to the wider bore of this clarinmet (I have a Series 9 too). My advice is get the existing barrel repaired. Don't buy a modern barrel designed for a small-bore clarinet. If the original barrel is beyond repair, search around for a Series 9 barrel (and don't end up with a Series 9* barrel!!!). Good luckl! --Bill.

Thanks all for info. I think I will go the repair route as my mpc. seems to match up OK with the barrel and horn.

I have a few Series 9 and 9* barrells in my possession. I've taken the time to measure the ID of the barrel bores (top and bottom of the barrel). What I've discovered is that there is significant variation in the bore IDs. Assuming you are happy with the barrel (other than the crack), have someone take the dimensions so that the barrel can be reproduced sometime in the future, just in case it does fail in the future. Yes, the Selmer Company in Elkhart, IN will sell you a replacement barrel (almost any length) for about $125.00. The transaction has to be handled by a Selmer dealer.
