i am trying to find out about this work, any info would be greatly appreciated, eg recordings etc. does anyone know of the playability of this work or is it similar in demands to the saxophone concerto.

Eduard Brunner has recorded the Concerto for Col Legno (WWE 1CD 31864). H&B Direct lists it as available. See:

Also available at Amazon.com but the price is even higher there than H&B's "non-member" price.
I haven't heard the saxophone concerto but my general impression of Denisov's works is that they are not for the faint of heart, either to play or to listen to. The first movement is definitely virtuosic. The second movement is a lento that I find hauntingly beautiful.
