 Well, that was fun ...

The communications service to the computers at Woodwind.Org was down for the last 7 hours (right after a disk crash and just before planned downtime for IP number changes ... coincidence? Failure to provide a sacrifice to the gods of the computers?).

Mark,
I'm a systems engineer and I'll give you my professional advice: always waive a dead chicken over any system before expecting it's recovery.

However, if you use the dead chicken, my advice is to make sure it has either been drained of blood or is frozen. Of course, if your computer has a sense of humor, a rubber chicken might do the trick.

Back in my radar trouble shooting days we used the advice, "Don't beat on it. Just get a bigger hamer."

Back in my Navy days we'd use a slugging wrench and a BFH.

Find something the computer is afraid of, and enclose a photograph of same inside the access cover.

Burning the chicken first is the most effective technique and has the longest history of success. But for ease of preparation, do use a good quality Chicken Igniter.

I'm sorry, but chickens have been proven to be a bit "iffy" at best. For better and more consistant results, simply insert the entrails of a goat.
