I own a bass clarinet made by "Chabot", which I bought in England about eight years ago. It is old, and my best guess is that it was made in the 1940s or '50s. I have not encountered any other Chabot, and no-one here has heard of the maker. What I have found out is that these Paris made instruments were exclusively exported to the US, so my one must have made its way back to Europe at some stage. The lower register is good, but the upper register does not compare with modern instruments.
I would be interested to learn if anyone has encountered this maker or used its bass clarinet. Any idea about possible manufacture dates, whether Chabot was an independent or a brand name of a bigger maker, and any general impressions you may have about the instrument would be interesting. Thanks

Since no one has responded, I'll try, but really cant help much. Chabot is not listed by Rendall, perhaps Mark C will look him up in Langwill. I would guess it is either a "stencil" name , or, as re: Busine of Martin-Busine [again as a guess], likely a skilled employee permitted to have a claim-to-fame [I have seen similar by LeBlanc]. Don
