I rushed home from work and there it was -- my new (to me at least) Leblanc LL! It does appear I got a good deal. The wood is nice and shiny (looks almost like plastic in some places) and the keywork is solid. It seems to play very well (until today I never even held an A, so I'm not sure how to judge it just yet), except the sound is a bit klunky when I play a B/F# using the key between the lower joint rings (is that called the fork key?). But it's a gorgeous well-maintained horn that'll no doubt serve me well until the day comes that I can afford a brand new pro set.

Congrats!! I got the chance to play an A clarinet before. The only major difference it seems to me is that it's a bit longer and the keys are farther apart. It was fun, but different. Good luck with your new "baby". Lol.

Oh, and it came with a double case. But the slots aren't perfectly form-fitting -- they're a bit larger than the actual pieces. Anybody know if that's a problem?

You can always wrap the horn with a soft cloth...
The slots for my Full Boehm Bb are not too large, but are somehow "broken." I'm intending to rip out the velvet and create a new interior for the case...

Mainly it's the slots for the upper joints that are too large, enough that they slide around a bit when in transit.
I swear, the more I hold it, the more it feels like a plastic horn. I KNOW it's wood (it's a pro model LL, the wood grain is apparent when you look closely, and besides I've never heard of a plastic A clarinet), but it's so shiny and smooth that it gives a tactile sense of plastic. If that's the case, Ralph, just wrap each upper joint in a thin cloth like a silk hankie or something.

Ralph, if your clarinets aren't fitting snuggly into the case just cover the inside with some chamois cloth which will help keep the inside of your case clean, taking away the dye on the wood, as well as provide a snug fit for you clarinets.
