in another post there was a referance made to the fact that most clarinets are imports.
Question--are any made in the USA?
i can't think of any.

I believe that Leblanc makes their student line Vito instruments in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Not only is Dee correct, Leblanc Kenosha is said to make many Clarinets labeled "Yamaha."
And the word "make" can have many connotations. some manufacturers send Clarinet subassemblies to the US (upper/lower joints, separate bells, separate barrels, mouthpieces, etc.) and those are put into cases appropriately in the US after play-testing. So I am told. Never saw it done.

Selmer makes all their USA line clarinets in Elkhart, Indiana, don't they?

I'm pretty sure that Selmer student (Bundy) and intermediate clarinet are made in Elkhart.

Many student line Yamaha clarinets are assembled in the US in Grand Rapids, MI (I've been to the plant).

Leblanc is USA owned (by Vito). The keywork of all Leblancs is made in the USA. It is then shiped to a small town called "la couture bousy" (not sure if I spelled it correctly) near Paris. There it is put onto the instruments. Some of the instruments are then shipped back to the USA. (The keywork for the Buffet's is made at Schreiber in Germany)

La Couture-Boussey, in Normandy, nord of Paris, a place linked to music instruments making. As "Memoire d'Ebčne", page 73: "The manufacture of calrinets began at La Couture-Boussey toward the end of the eighteenth century, and among the earliest to work in the production of this instrument were certainly members of the Buffet family, whose presence in the village has been documented at least as far back as 1772."

go to http://gleblanc.com for a history of the Leblanc company. Vito is a student line made by Leblanc and named after the original manager of the US facility. Leblanc is the the company name not Vito.
Originally Leblanc was the French firm Noblet. However, the Mr. Noblet, having no heirs, passed it on to Mr. Leblanc. The firm's name was changed to Leblanc and Noblet became the name of one of their lines of clarinets. After World War II, Leblanc established an assembly facility in the USA. Later they started making their student instruments there. Eventually Leblanc decided to move their headquarters from France to the US. This required the permission of the French government but was finally accomplished.

I also have been under the impression that Vito was just the name of a model. I also just recently became aware of Vito saxophones and wonder if they are made in Kenosha.

To add to Dee's info, Vito Pascucci is shown as President of LeBlanc-Kenosha in a 1960's brochure and is a co-inventor [with Wm. Stubbins] of US 3,791,253, 1974 and inventor of a number of other patents, assigned to LeBlanc Corp. Kenosha, Wis. Don

Two years ago Mr. Vito was still the president. I don't know about now. (It also the reason why I said the company is owned by Vito, allthough they kept the French name)

More properly, the company is run by Vito Pascucci, who started Leblanc USA under the guidance of Leon Leblanc and today owns a majority interest in Leblanc France.
Mr. Pascucci would probably be the proper way to address him.
