Dear BB members: does any one know about Kalmen Bloch he was a fine player in the Columbia Symphony back in the 50s and would like to know if he is still living. As to any biographical info this would be good as well...I admire his playing under Walter especially on the old Brahmns lps of the symphonies on Columbia Masterworks.

Kalman not Kalmen. Yes he is still alive. I sell his excerpt books on my web site.
For someone of my generation who grew up in Los Angeles he is remembered as the prinicpal of the LA Philharmonic. He is also the father of Michele Zukovsky, current LA Phil co-principal.
Do a search on Google for his name and you will find a number of references including one in 2001 at the Fresno Clarinet event where he joined Michele and they played together.
