 NYC Woodwind/Brasswind Closing Sept. 21 !!

I was just informed by Jonathon Watkins (store manager) that the New York City branch of the Woodwind/Brasswind is closing it's doors as of September 21, 2002.

This closing is only for the New York City store, and will not effect the main store in South Bend, Indiana.

As it was explained to me - purely a case of economics (rising rent and the cost of doing business in NYC).

Very sad news...GBK

Maybe they should do what alot of Wallstreeters have done and move to Jersey City.

The store and Jonathan, a very nice fellow, will be missed. On a selfish note, it certainly makes purchasing a new clarinet in New York City more difficult.

This is a tragedy. Very sad. I have ordered from Jonathan since I was actually a child!

It is indeed sad that Woodwind/Brasswind is closing it's NYC store. It was a real asset to the city to have Jonathan & Lori meet our musical needs in one neat shop.
I hope they decide to reopen a small woodwind shop themselves, somewhere in midtown NYC, so we will continue to have their expertize in selecting instuments and equipment at reasonable prices.

That's odd...that's one day before my birthday. Is there a WWBW in California?

That's terrible news. And Johnathan and his wife just had a baby.

Actually, it's understandable, especially considering that there is a new baby in the house. I am a small business owner, and I can tell you that retail is demanding and difficult. I've done it with two small children, including a baby. I'm often here before the shop opens and after the shop is closed. It's a big demand of time. It's also difficult to manage two locations, and I know because I had a second shop that I closed. I now teach about 20 students two days a week and manage my shoppe which included a slate of workshops, classes and lectures. I say "good luck" to Jonathan and enjoy your life! You can order by mail from WWBW, Muncy Winds, or other places. You can try out instruments by mail, as well. It's less overhead for the business owner, and less time-consuming than a brick and mortar store front.
