Probably the best of all the ones out there is the one put up by Naxos at:

Better yet, buy a copy of the Harvard Dictionary of Music (Apel). There is the hardcover version (which I think every serious musician should own) or, at least find a copy of the paperback (concise) version.
Check old used book stores, library discards, thrift shops, etc... There are a lot of copies floating around which can be obtained very inexpensively...GBK

Ralph...Actually the Austin Symphony site is quite poor.
Aside from the many very <b>basic</b> terms which are missing, I would hesitate to use any site that has numerous gross spelling errors (eg: crescendo, characterized, rhythmic, etc...).
It looks like the work of a struggling Music 101 student...GBK

Well, it's just a glossary, not complete by any means.
Besides, whoever wrote it probably doesn't even play on Buffets. :-)

Usually a spelling error here and there doesn't concern me (we've all been known to create a typo or two), but after perusing the site for only 5 minutes and catching (without exaggeration) at least ten spelling errors (some of which were definitely NOT typos) and a number of grammatical gaffes where one has to wonder if the writer's native language was English, I say: better to skip the site all together...GBK

GBK: You've talked me into examining the Harvard Music Dictionary. I have two music dictionaries, and I frequently find that my Random House Unabridged is better on music terms than either of them. All three, however, contain errors. (For example, a musical selection in cut time -- AKA alla breve -- isn't always 2/4, no matter what or where you may read.)
Spending just a minute or two with the Naxos site revealed it to be rather skimpy. There is considerable information there (I didn't count the entries), but it is limited. Anyone using it should not be astounded if a sought-after term just isn't there.
