I intend to get another mouthpiece that is similiar to the current one I have.
But the new mouthpiece will have a closer tip in the hope that I could play flatter.
I've tried a longer barrel but it just flattens the short notes only.
With the original barrel and mouthpiece, there is no way to pitch it down to A=442.
Please advise me, especially on the (closer tip, same facing length = flatter) part

Ken,
What are you playing on now? You might want to look at the 13 series Van Doren mouthpieces. I would recommend the M13 lyre.

A closer tip will not make a mouthpiece flatter. You could order a longer barrel and get the same results if you are happy with your current mouthpiece. A good repair technician can also lower the pitch as well through manipulation of the bore.

Could anyone teach me, why a closer tip makes clarinets flatter? Of course, you will have to use harder reeds, which might have that effect, when not played well. But as a general rule?

the baffle has a greater degree of infuluence over the tip opening in the effect of pitch. American babbles are more concave and therefore this has a lowering effect. I am sure there is alot of info in the Klarinet Archives on this forum.
