DC Different Drummers Symphonic band needs clarinets. The Clarinet section is a Sneezy sponsor. Rehearsals are monday's beginning August 19th. http://www.dcdd.org We are planning two performance dates for our concert this year: Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23. Some of the selected music for the concert includes the finale from Camille Saint-Saens’ Symphony Number 3 (the
Organ Symphony). Dr. Ted Guerrant of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church will guest solo on the organ. We will also be performing David Holsinger’s Prelude and Rondo, the Melody Shop March by Karl King (a euphonium feature) and Danza Final from Estancia
Ballet (a piccolo and mallet percussion feature). We’re planning on some Copland too – The Promise of Living, from the Tender Land, as well as Elgar’s “Nimrod” variation from the Enigma Variations, and, the “Bottle Dance” featuring our flag corps.
Hope some of you can join! Blake

"the Melody Shop March by Karl King (a euphonium feature)"
Hmmmmm....The clarinet part is difficult enough to warrant being a feature by itself--in fact, I thought is WAS the featured part in the trio.
Good luck with your "clarinetist hunt"--there are certainly enough good clarinetists in the DC area to draw from. Try aliegning with the City of Fairfax Band for support--I "sat in" with them last year and had a great evening!!

Unsolicited plug: I rehearsed with the DCDD group one evening last season, had a very enjoyable time --- had my schedule permitted I would have continued playing with them, but I got too busy -- I do recommend the group to DC-area clarinettists looking for a decent concert band to work with.
William: I play occasionally with the City of Fairfax Band (bass or contra clarinet) and typically their roster is pretty full, so I'm not sure they're looking for additional clarinetists (on the other hand, it can't hurt to ask.....)

David--I think you communicated that info to me once before. Next time I sit in, I'll try to be sure to say hello.
Aslo, what I tried to suggest to the DCDD band was that perhaps some of the Fairfax clarinetists would apprectiate having another band to perform with or would recommend the DCDD to some of the clarinetists (or other players as well) who may be on their waiting list. Although, if you are not careful, you can get like me playing in so many different ensembles and combos that I almost need a full time sectretary to manage my schedule and keep things straight. Yea pocket calanders!!!!!! (and retirement time)
