Private Lesson Teacher in North Seattle Area
Author: Paul
Date:   2002-06-29 08:30

Hi, I would really appreciate recommendations for a well reputated clarinet lesson teacher in North Seattle area(I live in Shoreline). I want a lesson teacher that teaches classical stuff(non jazz) only and are very serious about teaching(with a cold face...) because my last teacher was just too loose and funny, it slowed down the learning process. Drop me some infos about them and phone number, please. Thank you!

Paul, I know of two teachers in that general area, one in Shoreline, the other in Ballard. I take lessons from the one in Ballard. My e-mail address is posted so you can contact me directly for my recommendations.

Todd

Sean Osborn is one of the best clarinet players alive, and he lives right around there. He is an excellent teacher.

Paul--
Larry Combs plays principal clarinet for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, among other things. He was merely ending his post with his initials--it's mot part of the sentence.

>No kidding-He really is

Since I play in the same orchestra as Mr. Combs' daughter (a cellist) I think it might be interesting to see if she could ask him to corroborate this. (Wouldn't it, DH?)

It sure would, rmk.
My guess is that you are absolutely correct about who is impersonating Mr. Combs. Must be a split personality issue. Seems to happen every so often, doesn't it?

Dear People,

I don't need Larry Combs to back me up. Why would I, when what I said in the first place was true?

In addition, Sean played in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, one of the world's elite orchestras, for 10 years.

Any of you who think you can outplay him can go ahead and try.

PS, upon further inspection, I realize that Larry Combs has offered his email address in his post. Feel free to write him if you really think I would forge his name. I certainly wouldn't risk the credibility I have in the profession to help my good friend Sean Osborn gain one student.

Paul, contact Sean at feanor33@attbi.com

Actually, I placed ahead of him in several auditions, including Milwaukee and National.

Oh, and by the way, I will be seeing Mr. Comb's daughter Wednesday...

OK everyone take a deep breathe and play the first two pages of Baermann scales WITH the metronome and stop being silly.
I did make that posting and forgive me for not putting a comma or dash before my initials thus confusing the issue (I'd rather play the Coq d'Or solo than have to type anything).
Sean Osborne is in my opinion a world class player,
I remember hearing a recording of some Verdi ballet music with the MET orchestra in which Sean played the solos-beautiful playing--also heard in person at MET Strauss' Capriccio with Sean playing the C-cl, part.....also impressive
Really HAT would not play games like that!

"Actually, I placed ahead of him in several auditions, including Milwaukee and National."

Hmmm...even after all these years, I never realized that we had standings. ;)

Anyway, in all auditions, there's only one place in the end.

I only meant that I was advanced to finals or semi-finals and he wasn't. Of course you are right: it only matters if you get the job.

After all this, I would like to add that Mr. Osborn may indeed be a great teacher. I just don't think he is "one of the best players alive", even if Mr. Combs *does* think so.
