I have to say that I have "grown up" in a way in the last twenty four hours since i started that top on blue shades. (thanks greg for clearing up the misunderstanding about what florida university he is at). I have realized it is so much better to not just get, but to really earn a compliment from a guy who doesn't just hand them out. I had to work to get that solo the way he prefered it to be played, and I am a better player because of him. I have come out of ISYM with a great deal of respect for him.

Confidence can be one's greastest asset in life as long as it is not allowed to lead to faulse security and arrogance. Nice to hear that you have "learned your lesson", as have many of us who have played under the dictatorial batons of self-indulgent, think-they-know-it-all, can't-conduct-a-clear-or-steady-beat, galvanized ear conductors. To quote (paraphrase) from my old sports manual, every ensemble is a team, and there is no "I" in T_E_A_M. Winning teams always play well together, and sometimes make the coach look better than he/she really is. Even "The King", Elvis, always said, "Thanyouverymuch" after every performance--not only to his audience, but also (in effect) to his musicians, writers, production, publicity and marketing staffs and his agent, Col. Parker. And where would Michael Jordan have gotten without the rest of his Bulls. Imagine, Larry Combs without the CSO--playing funeral gigs on Bourbon St. or marching Half-Fast?????? Probably not, but here are two self confident and talented superstars that are perfect examples of "team players" who have been successful under a variety of coachs/conductors.
Bottom Line--Self confidence and talent are golden, but the ability to work with others is priceless. Apparently, you're off to a great start--play it "their way" when necessary, but always play it well.

"There is no 'I' in T-E-A-M. Then it would be a word like Teiam, and that just
doesn't make sense."
--Jessica Lindsey (a Blue Shades master)
Just a little humor for you.
