Amati Eb 261

Has anyone tried out the Amati Eb 261 model? I am looking for an inexpensive wood Eb for just occasional use in a community orchestra. I may not be able to try it out before purchasing so would appreciate anyone else's review. I will most likely get a better mouthpiece and maybe a barrel to help with the intonation. My Bb clarinet is a Buffet E11 which I like but would prefer to spend less on an Eb than what the E11 Eb is going for.

Eileen...The Amati clarinets, although not one of the "Big 4" manufacturers has shown a marked improvement in their top of the line professional models. Last month, I wrote a very positive review of the Amati ACL675 clarinet. My impression has not changed. I would assume that their lower end clarinets have also benefitted from this turn around. here isthe original thread:

The bottom line for any instrument, whether Amati or any of the household name brands is how well it plays and if the intonation satisfactory.

I would never buy a clarinet (no matter what brand) without the possibililty of returning it if I found it unsatisfactory...GBK
