hey, I'm interested in buying a new clarinet but I don't have much money being a poor student and all... I was wondering if anyone knew of a reputable online company that would accept monthly payments instead of just one huge payment. I am looking in about the two thousand dollar range, and could probably scrap together thirty dollars a month. thanks!

I hate to break this to you, but $30 is not likely to be enough money to finance a $2000 clarinet. Even if you could get some place to do it, you'd probably be paying it off for about 15 years.
The credit terms that these places usually offer aren't all that great, especially if you are a student with limited income. You're probably going to have to come up with more money or lower your expectations for the type of clarinet you will be able to get.
If you are close with any of your relatives, maybe you can get them to finance it for you or use their good credit to get better terms on the loan. At least the clarinet will hold some of its value. My parents helped me finance a new computer when I was in college and now that's sitting in a junk pile somewhere.

You may want to consider purchasing a good quality, used clarinet. You can get some pro models for a few hundred dollars that are in nice playing condition. I've purchased some good ones online (ebay) for my students, but I've also received some misrepresented clarinets ("duds"), as well. If you have a decent instrument now, you may want to consider getting it repadded and "tweeked". I don't know what classified ads here on the BB may show you. I may suggest putting in your own want ad, or asking for information on the BB. Be sure to ask Mark Charette how to do this within the guidelines of the BB postings. You may possibly be able to do the request and ask that those responding to your request contact you directly by email. Good Luck! Sincerely, Sandra P.S. It would literally take you thirty (30) years to pay off a $2000 loan at $30 per month, given the interest rates you'd likely be charged (in excess of 18%). You would also end up paying closer to $11,000 after you take the interest you paid into consideration.
Even if you got a lower rate (like the 9.9% introductory rate offered by many credit card companies) it would still take about 8 years to pay it off at $30 per month, and you would have ended up
paying closer to $3000. Using credit cards can really eat up your money!
If you want to purchase a clarinet over a 6 month period, you can do so interest-free with several online retailers who use the "Keynotes" credit. I believe that www.music123.com and www.woodwindandbrasswind.com both participate. A $2000 clarinet would cost you $333.33 per month, and you'd only pay $2000 for it! This, of course, is 11 times as much as you said you oould scrape together, so you may want to seriously consider some of the advice above about used instruments or family assistance.

Do you want to spend $2000 or do you want a good instrument? Dont assume that if you spend enough money that you will be satified. I suggest you find a instrument that meets your standards and then look at the price, you may be able to find a superior instrument for much less than $2000. You should audition any instrument before makeing a purchase decision, particulary at the price level you are suggesting.

The reason I specified about 2000 dollars is that I tried the Leblanc Sonata and loved it, that was the price. Of course I'll audition any instrument before I buy.

If you ever pay $2000 for a LeBlanc Sonata, I will eat my hat and then throttle the person who sold it to you. There is absolutely no reason on the planet you should ever pay more than $900 for a brand new Sonata. Even less if you get a used one. Check the WW&BW, Muncy, Weiner, International Musical Suppliers, Brook Mays, etc. They're all in the 800-900 range. Good luck with your search
