I never heard of "nose grease" but now I have been enlightened with a little search.

It's easiest if your pinky comes down on the G# key curved and on the edge of the key. I've never tried nose grease. It's necessary in a lot of pieces in B major- twice on the second page of the Debussy Premiere Rhapsodie.

It's more common for pit musicians because the music is often in strange keys, and is seldom scored for A clarinet.

There are many passages, that without a LH pinky G#/Eb key, a little extra "nose grease/oil" could help the right pinky slide.
The one that always comes to mind is the Brahms Sonata No.2, Op.120, 1st movement, measures 83-84 ...GBK

Long ago I learned to use nose grease for the right hand when playing C/F to Eb/Ab, from a teacher who had been a pit musician in the silent movie days. The Beohm system doesn't use rollers (thankfully), and I always found nose grease better than rollers.

If you're grossed out about using nose grease and don't want to carry an extra container of vaseline, why not just use cork grease on your finger? It's already in your case.

you can use nose grease in the clarinet part of the hindemith symphony in b flat in the soft section in the middle of the first movment going from clarion c sharp with the right hand to fork f sharp to prevent flip flopping. either way works well thats just what our band director made us use
