Where can i find one of those quality reed guard case thingys that are made of wood and has a sheet of glass on the inside and a pretty piece of possibly purple velvet on the inside to hold it down. I'm really looking for the kinda made of wood. I am aware that Selmer makes a similar kind however it's not wood. Thanx in advance! Oh btw, i'd just like to thank my dear oboe friend Cabbie for giving me as a going away present a beautiful piece of glass for reed working! Thanx Cabbie!

The ones you seem to be describing are the Harrisons. Harrison went out of business, so they're now impossible to find. You can get some which are wood which hold 8-10 reeds, but the Harrisons hold 12.

I've used cases similar to what you're looking for. However, I've found something that is equally, if not more, effective for keeping reeds flat and at about the same price (or cheaper in the long run). I've started using microscope slides with rubber bands tied around them to hold down reeds. I paid about 7 dollars for the slides(12), and a dollar for the rubber bands. If you can find a slide case, you can easily put away ten slides (with two reeds per slide then that's 20 reeds stored) at once.

Actually Joe, the slide idea isn't a bad one at all, in fact... it's quite ingenous and innovative... I will definetly look into that especially for my reeds that need to be stored in my humidor. Thanx

The point is to rotate reeds, then they will each last a little longer, and if your one good read dies, you always have some other ones that are broken in and ready to go.

I think a guy named Gary Meyer is supposed to have discovered the wonderful microscope slide storage solution in or about 1980. See David Pino's "Clarinet and Clarinet Playing".

I feel reeds loose flexibility after being stored in sealed circumstances of closed reed cases. Reeds seem to need dry fresh air. Vandoren sells a reed holder, which has 4 reeds slide rooms and a one stick dessicant room. The idea itself seems good. If the outside cover is made of free-brathing bamboo mesh or Goretex and the reed room bases are made of glass plates, it may be better.
I would choose old La Vose reed guard made of metal not of plastic.
