ivan...What specific questions about the history of the Finzi or Thorarinsson did you have?
Some points you might want to touch on in your research on Finzi:
1. Finzi's early musical training - who were his teachers and musical influences?
2. Who were the Bagatelles written for, and why?
3. How long did it take Finzi to complete the work and why?
4. Which movement was added later, and why?
5. Explain/define the following: Forlana / Carol
6. What are the other 3 versions and arrangements of the Bagatelles-
for what instruments, and who arranged them?
7. What is a Bagatelle, and in your opinion, is that title appropriate?
If you can find the answers to the above questions, you will be well on your way to discovering some very interesting facts about the music you are to perform.
You will soon find out the Gerald Finzi was a fascinating musical personality, and his views on life and (especially) mortality would influence almost everything he wrote...GBK
